Description: This portrait shows Thomas Parr (1483-1635), who claimed to have lived to the age of 152. Parr was born in Shropshire and lived most of his life as a farmer. In 1635, he was brought to London by Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel, to be presented at court. He died shortly afterwards, and a post-mortem examination found that he had died of pneumonia.
