Description: This is a preparatory drawing for the fresco by Raphael in the Stanza di Eliodoro in the Vatican. The fresco depicts the story of Heliodorus, a general of the Seleucid king Seleucus IV Philopator, who was sent to plunder the Temple in Jerusalem. Heliodorus was prevented from doing so by an angel on a horse, who appeared with a whip and drove Heliodorus and his men out of the Temple.
