Artwork: The Propylaea
Description: The Propylaea is a monumental gateway building at the entrance to the Acropolis of Athens. It was built in the 5th century BC by the architect Mnesicles. The Propylaea is a Doric order building, with six columns on the front and back and eleven columns on each side. The central doorway is flanked by two smaller doorways. The Propylaea was decorated with sculptures by Phidias and other artists.
