Artist: Raphael
Artwork: The Fall of Phaeton
Description: The Fall of Phaeton is a drawing by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It is a preparatory drawing for a fresco in the Villa Farnesina in Rome. The fresco depicts the myth of Phaeton, who was the son of Helios, the sun god. Phaeton asked his father to let him drive the sun chariot for a day, but he lost control of the horses and nearly set the world on fire. Zeus saved the world by striking Phaeton down with a thunderbolt.
