Description: Denis Diderot (1713-1784) was a French philosopher, art critic, and writer who was a leading figure in the Enlightenment. In 1746, he published Pensees philosophiques, which resulted in his imprisonment for three months at Vincennes. In 1751, he became the co-editor, with Jean le Rond d’Alembert, of the Encyclopedie, which was intended to be a comprehensive compilation of all human knowledge.
