Description: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus is a 1558 oil on panel painting by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist Pieter Brueghel the Elder. The painting depicts the story of Icarus from Greek mythology. In the story, Icarus and his father Daedalus escape from Crete by flying with wings made of feathers and wax. Icarus flies too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and his wings to fall apart. He falls into the sea and drowns.
