Description: This is a preparatory drawing for Ingres’s 1804 painting “Thetis Bringing the Armor of Achilles to Her Son”, now in the Musee de l’Armee in Paris. The painting depicts the scene from Homer’s Iliad in which Thetis, the mother of Achilles, brings him new armor made by Hephaestus after his previous armor was taken by Hector.
