Description: This is a preparatory drawing for the painting The Surrender of Juliers, which is now in the collection of the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. The drawing is in pen and brown ink with brown wash, over black chalk, heightened with white. It is a study for the central group of figures in the painting, which shows the surrender of the city of Juliers to the Spanish army in 1621.
