Description: Sir George Henschel (1850-1934) was a musician, conductor, composer, and teacher. He was born in Breslau, Germany, and studied music at the Leipzig Conservatory. He made his debut as a conductor in 1877 and went on to conduct orchestras all over the world. He was knighted in 1903 and became a British citizen in 1914. This portrait was painted by Philip Alexius de Laszlo in 1903.
