Description: The Mystic Marriage of Saint Rose is a preparatory drawing for an altarpiece in the church of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini in Rome. The altarpiece was commissioned by the Florentine community in Rome and was completed in 1681. The drawing is in pen and brown ink with brown wash, over black chalk, heightened with white gouache, on light brown paper. It is a modello, or finished preparatory drawing, for the altarpiece. The modello is a smaller version of the altarpiece and was used by the artist to work out the composition and details of the painting.
