Description: Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806) was the eldest daughter of the 1st Earl Spencer and his wife Georgiana Poyntz. She was a celebrated beauty and a prominent Whig hostess. In 1774 she married William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, by whom she had three children. The Duchess was painted by Thomas Gainsborough in 1785-6.
