Description: Painted in 1888, this was the first painting in the style of Synthetism. Serusier created it after Paul Gauguin gave him a simple directive: “How do you see this tree? Is it green? Then use green, the most beautiful green on your palette. And that shadow, is it blue? Very well, paint it as blue as you can.”
