Description: This painting depicts the moment when Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is brought before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish high court, to answer for his teachings. Stephen is accused of blasphemy and of speaking against the Law of Moses. He defends himself eloquently, but the Sanhedrin is not convinced and condemns him to death.
