Description: Christopher Smart (1722-1771) was an Unknown poet. He was born in Shipbourne, Kent, and educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. graduating, he became a fellow of Pembroke College and took holy orders. In 1751, he was appointed chaplain to the Earl of Northumberland. In 1752, he published his first collection of poems, “The Lyric Poems of Christopher Smart.” In 1756, he published his most famous work, “A Song to David.” In 1763, he was confined to a madhouse for two years. his release, he published several more collections of poems. He died in London in 1771.
