Description: Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806), was the eldest daughter of the 1st Earl Spencer and his wife, Georgiana Poyntz. She was a celebrated beauty and a prominent figure in Whig society. She was also a patron of the arts and a friend of many artists, including Joshua Reynolds. This portrait was painted in 1785-6 and is now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
