Description: This is a preparatory drawing for a mythological painting. The composition shows the messenger god Mercury flying down from Olympus to deliver the golden apple of discord to the Trojan prince Paris. The apple is inscribed with the words “To the most beautiful”. The painting is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance, and is now housed in the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
