Description: This portrait of the novelist and poet George Meredith (1828-1909) was painted in 1908 by William Strang (1859-1921). Strang was a Scottish painter and etcher who was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1906 and a full member in 1921. He painted portraits of many prominent figures of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, including Rudyard Kipling, Thomas Hardy, and H. G. Wells.
