Description: This portrait shows Sir John Barrow, 1st Baronet (1764-1848), painted by John Jackson (1778-1831). Barrow was a British naval officer, explorer, and diplomat. He served as Second Secretary to the Admiralty from 1804 to 1806 and was a friend and confidant of Lord Nelson. In 1816, he was appointed Comptroller of the Navy.
