Description: The painting depicts the myth of Pallas and the Centaur. In the story, the centaur Nessus tries to abduct Deianira, the wife of Hercules. Hercules shoots Nessus with a poisoned arrow, and as Nessus dies, he tricks Deianira into giving Hercules a shirt soaked in his blood, which is poisoned. When Hercules puts on the shirt, he dies.
