Description: This painting depicts the biblical story of David and Abigail. David is a young shepherd who has been anointed by God to be the next king of Israel. Abigail is a beautiful and wise woman who is married to Nabal, a wealthy landowner. Nabal refuses to give David and his men food and supplies, so David sets out to attack him. Abigail learns of David’s plan and goes to meet him with a large supply of food and drink. She appeals to David’s mercy and convinces him to spare Nabal’s life. David is impressed by Abigail’s wisdom and beauty, and he later marries her.
