Description: The painting depicts the mythological story of Pan and Syrinx. Pan, a half-man half-goat god, is pursuing the nymph Syrinx. Syrinx, to escape Pan’s advances, transforms herself into reeds. Pan, unable to have Syrinx, cuts the reeds and makes a musical instrument, the pan flute, from them.
