Description: The Dream of Scipio is a fresco by the Italian Renaissance artist Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, painted c. 1510-1511 as part of the decoration of the Stanza della Segnatura, one of the four principal rooms of the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. The fresco illustrates a dream described in Cicero’s De re publica, in which the Roman general Scipio Africanus is visited by the personification of Rome and instructed in the virtues of justice, wisdom, and moderation.
