Artwork: Achilles Discovered among the Daughters of Lycomedes
Description: The painting depicts the moment when Achilles, disguised as a woman, is discovered among the daughters of Lycomedes. Achilles was the son of Peleus and Thetis, and was the greatest warrior of the Greeks in the Trojan War. He was invulnerable, except for his heel. In order to protect him from the war, his mother hid him among the daughters of Lycomedes, king of Scyros. However, Achilles was eventually discovered by Odysseus, who tricked him into revealing his true identity.
