Description: Andrew Oliver (1706-1774) was a wealthy Boston merchant and politician. He served as the lieutenant governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay from 1771 to 1774. Oliver was a controversial figure, and he was often at odds with the more radical elements of the American Revolution. He was forced to flee to England in 1774, where he died in 1777.
