Description: The painting depicts the myth of Apollo and Phaethon. Phaethon, the son of Apollo, was granted permission by his father to drive the sun chariot for a day. However, Phaethon lost control of the chariot and nearly set the world on fire. Zeus intervened and struck Phaethon down with a thunderbolt.
