Description: Charles Booth (1840-1916) was a British businessman and philanthropist. He was a director of the Cunard Steamship Company and the Booth Steamship Company. He was also a member of the Royal Statistical Society and the Royal Economic Society. Booth was best known for his work on poverty in London. In 1886, he published a book titled “Life and Labour of the People of London” which was based on a survey of 10,000 working-class families. The book was a groundbreaking study of poverty and had a significant impact on social policy in Britain.
