Description: Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham (1536-1624), was an Unknown nobleman, soldier, and courtier. He was the son of William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham, and Margaret Gamage. He was educated at Cambridge University and the Inner Temple. He served as a soldier in the Unknown army in France and the Netherlands. He was also a member of the Unknown Parliament. In 1585, he was appointed Lord High Admiral of England. He was a close friend and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. He was created Earl of Nottingham in 1597. He died in 1624.
