Artist: Andrew Wyeth
Artwork: Christina’s World
Description: In Christina’s World, Wyeth depicts Olson looking out of her window at the Cushing farmhouse in Cushing, Maine, where she lived with her parents and younger sister. The farmhouse is set in a field with a distant view of the sea. Olson was confined to a wheelchair because of polio, and the painting has been interpreted as a depiction of her isolation and loneliness.
