Description: The painting depicts the burial of Queen Juana I of Castile, who was known as Juana la Loca (Juana the Mad). She was the daughter of the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, and the mother of Emperor Charles V. Juana was married to Philip the Handsome, Duke of Burgundy, and they had six children together. Philip’s death in 1506, Juana became increasingly mentally unstable and was eventually declared insane. She was confined to the castle of Tordesillas for the rest of her life.
