Description: Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806), was the eldest daughter of the 1st Earl Spencer and his wife, Georgiana Poyntz. She was a celebrated beauty and a leading figure in Whig society. In 1774, she married William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, and they had two children together. The Duchess was a patron of the arts and a close friend of the Prince of Wales (later King George IV). She was also a supporter of the French Revolution, and her home, Devonshire House, was a meeting place for many of the leading figures of the day.
