Description: Gulian Verplanck (1751-1819) was a New York merchant and a member of the prominent Verplanck family. He was a graduate of King’s College (now Columbia University) and served as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1784 to 1787 and again in 1791. He was also a member of the New York State Senate from 1788 to 1790. Verplanck was a supporter of the American Revolution and served as a colonel in the New York militia. He was also a member of the New York Society for Promoting the Manumission of Slaves.
