Description: This painting depicts the biblical story of Hagar and the Angel. being cast out by Abraham at the insistence of his wife Sarah, Hagar and her son Ishmael wandered in the desert until they ran out of water. Hagar left Ishmael under a bush and went off a short distance so that she would not have to watch him die. An angel appeared to Hagar and told her that God had heard Ishmael’s cry and would make of him a great nation. The angel also showed Hagar a well of water, which saved her and Ishmael from dying of thirst.
