Description: The painting depicts the moment when Hercules, a Greek hero, rescues his wife Deianeira from the centaur Nessus. Nessus had tried to abduct Deianeira, but Hercules shot him with an arrow. As Nessus lay dying, he tricked Deianeira into giving him his cloak, which was poisoned with his blood. Deianeira later gave the cloak to Hercules, who died when he put it on.
