Description: John Christopher Pepusch (1667-1752) was a German-born composer and music theorist who settled in England in 1700 and became organist at the Charterhouse. He is best known for his ballad operas, including The Beggar’s Opera (1728), which was a huge success and ran for over 60 performances.
