Description: the Battle of Worcester in 1651, Charles II was disguised as a peasant and accompanied by Jane Lane and her brothers, who were Royalists. They hid in Whiteladies, a house owned by the Penderel family, who were also Royalists. The painting shows the moment when Charles is helped by Richard Penderel to change out of his royal clothes into peasant’s clothes.
