Description: This painting depicts the story of Meleager and Atalanta, in which Meleager, the son of the king of Calydon, accidentally kills his uncle during a hunt. In order to atone for his crime, he must kill the Calydonian Boar, a giant and fearsome creature. With the help of the goddess Artemis, Meleager is able to slay the boar, but he is later killed by his uncles, who are jealous of his success.
