Description: In 1835, Turner painted a series of works based on Sir Walter Scott’s poem ‘Marmion’, which was a narrative poem in six cantos, first published in 1808. The poem is set in 1513, during the reign of King Henry VIII, and tells the story of the Battle of Flodden Field. The poem was immensely popular in the 19th century and was illustrated by many artists, including Turner.
