Artist: Jacob Jordaens
Artwork: Pan and Syrinx
Description: This painting illustrates the myth of Pan and Syrinx. Syrinx, a water nymph, fled from the advances of the god Pan. As she ran, she prayed to the gods to change her form. Her prayer was answered and she was transformed into reeds. Pan cut the reeds and made a musical instrument, the pan flute, from them.
