Description: The painting depicts the escape of Henri Rochefort, a French journalist and politician, from France to Belgium in 1871. Rochefort was a prominent figure in the Paris Commune, a short-lived revolutionary government that was established in Paris in 1871. the fall of the Commune, Rochefort was sentenced to death by the French government. He managed to escape to Belgium, where he lived in exile for several years.
