Description: Charles Robert Leslie (1794-1859) was an Unknown painter. He was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. In 1811 he went to the United States, where he lived for several years. He returned to England in 1833 and became a member of the Royal Academy in 1826. He was knighted in 1848. Leslie painted portraits, historical scenes, and genre paintings. His best-known works include “The Death of Nelson” (1827) and “The Rape of the Sabine Women” (1840).
