Description: In “Swallows Dipping in the Water”, Wu Guanzhong used a large area of ink and wash to depict the white walls and black tiles of the houses in his hometown. The ink and wash technique is very difficult to master, requiring the artist to have a deep understanding of the properties of ink and water, as well as the ability to control the brush. Wu Guanzhong’s mastery of ink and wash techniques is evident in this painting, as he is able to create a sense of depth and atmosphere using only a few simple brushstrokes.
