Description: Sir George Thomas Smart (1776-1867) was an Unknown composer, organist, conductor and teacher. He was a chorister at the Chapel Royal from 1786 to 1791 and later became a pupil of Thomas Attwood. In 1799 he was appointed organist of St James’s Church, Westminster, and in 1821 he became conductor of the Philharmonic Society. He was knighted in 1832. Smart’s compositions include operas, symphonies, overtures, songs and glees. He also edited a number of collections of music.
