Description: Sir Henry Kellett (1806-1875) was an Arctic explorer and naval officer. He was born in Clonakilty, County Cork, Ireland. He joined the Royal Navy in 1822 and served in the Mediterranean and the West Indies. In 1845, he was appointed to command the HMS Herald, which was part of the Franklin Search Expedition. The expedition was unsuccessful in finding Franklin, but it did explore much of the Arctic coast of Canada. Kellett was promoted to rear-admiral in 1862 and retired from the navy in 1870. He died in London in 1875.
