Description: This is a preparatory drawing for a painting of Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth, by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. The drawing is in pen and brown ink, with some areas of wash and white highlighting. Juno is depicted as a tall, majestic figure, with a full, rounded body and a serene expression on her face. She is wearing a long, flowing gown, and her hair is pulled back into a bun. In her left hand, she holds a scepter, and in her right hand, she holds a pomegranate, which is a symbol of fertility. The drawing is a study for a larger painting of Juno that Raphael painted in 1518. The painting is now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
