Description: The painting depicts a scene from Homer’s Odyssey, in which Odysseus and his men encounter the Cyclops Polyphemus. The Cyclops is a one-eyed giant who lives in a cave on the island of Sicily. Odysseus and his men are shipwrecked on the island and they seek shelter in the Cyclops’ cave. The Cyclops captures Odysseus and his men and eats them. Odysseus and his men escape by blinding the Cyclops and then fleeing the island.
