Description: The Elevation of the Cross is a triptych by Peter Paul Rubens painted in 1610-1611. The left panel shows the Virgin Mary and Saint John with the Marys at the foot of the cross. The central panel shows the crucifixion of Jesus, with two thieves being crucified on either side of him. The right panel shows the Roman soldiers on horseback, with one of them piercing Jesus’ side with a lance.
