Description: The painting depicts the biblical story of King Solomon’s judgment of the two women who both claimed to be the mother of the same child. Solomon ordered a sword to cut the child in half, so that each woman would get half of the child. The real mother begged Solomon to spare the child’s life and give him to the other woman. In this way, Solomon was able to identify the real mother.
