Scipio listened to both sides of the story and then ruled in favor of the younger brother. The painting shows Scipio sitting on a raised platform, listening to the arguments of the two brothers. In the background, there is a group of soldiers and onlookers. The painting is a masterpiece of the Dutch Golden Age and is one of the most famous works in the Rijksmuseum.
